Year 1

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”

Benjamin Franklin

Throughout the year the subjects we will cover are English, Maths, Science, Religious Education, Computing, Physical Education and Topic. The children will benefit from specialist teachers for Creative Arts.

What learners need to be successful

In Year 1, pupils’ independence and confidence will grow and develop throughout the year. Pupils will be able to share ideas, work co-operatively and imaginatively. Our pupils are enthusiastic learners who thrive on practical experiences and by learning through play.

Pupils need to bring their book bags every day. This should contain their reading book and reading record.

Children are expected to read every night at home with an adult, even if it is just a few pages of their book. Please ensure that you fill in your child’s reading record so we can track what they have been reading. Extended learning books will also be sent out weekly.

  • LINKVideos with information about how parents can support their children with phonics
  • A minimum of one homework activity needs to be completed each week and the main literacy activity is completed over each month.
