Year 4 Birch and Chestnut enjoyed spending time in the sunshine as they planned their independent writing together. The children worked collaboratively to share and develop ambitious vocabulary ideas for their ‘thinking side’ before planning their paragraphs. It was a pleasure to watch them working so thoughtfully, supporting one another and carefully considering their vocabulary choices as writers.

Year 4 were lucky to welcome visitors from HSBC, who delivered an engaging workshop all about global money. The children learned how to plan and budget for a holiday, including converting pounds into euros and other currencies. They also explored how much different holidays might cost and discussed what spending would be essential and what was non‑essential. It was a fantastic, real‑life learning experience that helped the children understand money in a practical and meaningful way.

Today, as part of celebrating Outdoor Learning Day, we took our maths learning outside! We explored different types of angles in a fun and practical way.

First, we collected sticks from around the playground. Then, we used them to create our own angles on the ground. We worked together to compare them and carefully ordered them from the smallest angle to the largest.

It was a great way to learn, be active, and enjoy the sunshine while developing our understanding of angles. We had lots of fun working as a team and showing brilliant mathematical thinking!

In Year 4, we have been learning all about shape. Today, we focused on symmetry and explored it in a fun, creative way!

We used paint and different shapes to help us discover lines of symmetry. By folding and printing the shapes, we could clearly see how each side matched. We worked carefully to find out how many lines of symmetry each shape had.

It was exciting to see our patterns come to life, and we enjoyed combining art with maths. We showed great teamwork and curiosity throughout the activity!

As part of National Numeracy Day, Year 4 took part in an exciting Zoom session with TTRS. During the session, we learned all about money and how to make sensible choices with it.

We also played a fun game called ‘Would You Rather?’ with Mr Moneybags, where we had to think carefully about different spending options and explain our choices. It really helped us to think about the value of money in a fun and engaging way.

We showed fantastic participation and enjoyed learning alongside other schools during the session!
