Year 2 have been transforming into young journalists this term! To kick off our newspaper writing unit, the children explored a range of children’s newspapers to identify key features such as headlines, captions, quotes, photographs and the layout of real news reports. Using what they discovered, they have begun drafting their own articles—developing their ability to inform, explain and capture the reader’s attention.

Paper Aeroplane Competition

During science week, Year 2 had some hands-on fun; they took part in a paper aeroplane competition. The classroom buzzed with excitement as children tested different designs, made predictions, and evaluated which shapes and folds helped their planes fly the furthest. It was a brilliant opportunity to combine creativity, problem solving and a healthy bit of friendly competition.

Design & Technology – The Great Fire of London

As part of our history and DT learning, the children have been designing and building their own Tudor houses. After carefully constructing them with traditional features such as timber frames and thatched-effect roofs, we recreated a small scale re-enactment of the Great Fire of London by safely burning the models outside. The children were fascinated to see how quickly the fire spread between the closely packed houses, bringing their learning to life in a memorable and exciting way.
