The Year 11 pupils of TGSA recently completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) practice expedition, showcasing remarkable teamwork and resilience. Despite the challenging navigation, all teams successfully traversed the picturesque yet demanding terrain of the Peak District.

Day 1: Ludds Church Circular Route The expedition kicked off with the Ludds Church circular route. This route, known for its dense woodland and narrow paths, posed significant navigation challenges. The pupils had to carefully follow their maps to avoid getting lost in the labyrinthine forest. However, their determination and collaborative spirit saw them through.

Day 2: Three Shires Waterfalls Circular Route On the second day, the teams tackled the Three Shires Waterfalls circular route. This route, with its steep inclines and slippery paths near the waterfalls, tested their physical endurance and navigational skills. The sound of cascading water was both a guide and a distraction, but the pupils managed to stay on course, demonstrating excellent map-reading abilities.

Day 3: The Roaches The final day saw the teams navigating over the Roaches, a rugged ridge known for its rocky outcrops and stunning views. The uneven terrain added to the difficulty, but the pupils’ perseverance and teamwork ensured they completed the expedition successfully.

A special thanks goes to the dedicated staff members – Ms. Mushtaq, Ms. Oakley, Mr. Taylor, and Mr. Bell – whose support was invaluable, especially during the cold nights. Their guidance and encouragement were crucial in helping the pupils overcome the challenges and achieve their goals. We look forward to seeing these pupils complete their assessed award before they leave secondary education.
