It was Children’s Mental Health Week at the academy last week. We demonstrated acts of kindness to our young people with a pastry breakfast and a soft start to the day so that they had time to chat with their tutors and friends.

Extended tutor time was on all week with lots of activities and a key focus on know yourself to grow yourself. Affirmation cards and worry aids were handed out to pupils as a boost of encouragement. Primary school was focusing on the theme of kindness with a special assembly by our student leaders.

Students commented on how appreciated they felt and how it was great to have conversations on mental well-being. There was a real sense of community.

We also provided daily sessions for our students to engage in, from ‘Understanding Emotional Health and Well-Being’ to a guided meditation and yoga session. All students thoroughly enjoyed all of the sessions and have asked if we can continue. After half term we will be starting weekly yoga session.
