Health & Social Care

“You are as important to your health as it is to you.”

Terri Guillemets

Health and Social Care is an optional course for students in Year 9, with the opportunity to gain a qualification at Key Stage 4. The course includes four separate units all based on different aspects of health and social care to enable learners to gain a broad understanding of the health and social care sector. This includes the development of human beings through from childhood through to later adulthood, as well as the factors that influence their lives.

Students will be introduced to the world of Health and Social care by looking at definitions of health and wellbeing. Students will understand pathways in health, social and early years care to allow them to understand the role of practitioners and how service users interact with different services in all three sectors. They will develop a sense of what health, social care and early years’ services offer and how they are organised and support the diverse groups of people who need them. This will provide students with a good basis for their qualification in HSC in Years 10 and 11 at Key Stage 4.
