Welcome to Year 6’s year group page. This page contains general information to support parents/carers of children in Year 6. We also have class pages on Class Dojo, a secure website which can only be accessed by parents/carers of children in Year 6 at TGSA. This is where we will upload photographs and updates of what is going on in our classes. You can also use Class Dojo to get in touch with us and share the work that you child is doing at home.
In year 6 this week, we enjoyed experimenting with different electrical components as part of our ‘circuits’ topic. Pupils made predictions on how to make the bulbs brighter, testing different hypotheses.
This term, year 6 have been reading an abridged version of Shakespeare’s, A Mid Summer Night’s Dream. Alongside this, they have been looking at how biographies are written in order to write their own version about the life of William Shakespeare in a couple of weeks. As part of their preparation for independent writing, this week we have been writing a ‘shared’ class biography about Florence Nightingale.
Year 6 pupils had the opportunity to be involved in a live debate this week as part of our current R.E topic -'Science and Biblical Creation: Complementary or Conflicting?' Mr Williamson argued on one side of the debate and we invited a Christian Science teacher, Mr Shepherd, to argue for the other side. All pupils had the chance to pose questions about the origins of the universe to our panellists.
Year 6 joined a live author event this week to celebrate World Book Day. The author, Dan Santat explained how he came up with ideas and illustrations for his graphic novel, ‘The Aquanaut’.
This Friday, we thought about the situation in Ukraine, offering prayers for an end to conflict and for peace in the region.
Year 6 have been practising their basketball and gymnastics skills in recent P.E lessons. In basketball, pupils have been focussing on passing and dribbling, while in gymnastics, pupils have been trying to re-create set sequences from learning cards.
In our R.E. lessons this half term we have been learning about the life story of Moses. We have considered his reaction to his people (The Israelites) being slaves in Egypt and how Christians today still seek to bring Freedom and Justice for all.
